The more precisely you spec it, the tighter the recipe. Include:
  • Function + target — the film's job and a measurable number (e.g. TiN hard coat, 2200 HV, under 300 MPa compressive)
  • Chamber — make/model and base pressure
  • Source — magnetron (planar/rotatable), e-beam, thermal, PECVD, or ALD — and the target material
  • Power supply — DC, pulsed-DC (frequency, duty), RF (13.56 MHz), or HiPIMS — and max power
  • Gas lines — process gases (Ar, O₂, N₂, …) and MFC ranges
  • Substrate — material, max temperature, bias, rotation
